My future sofa…

Hello there,

I’ve been away for the weekend at Sampo’s family’s summer cottage. It’s located about 350 km (4-5 hours drive) from Helsinki, so the weekend is pretty short with all the traveling. But once there, it is really nice and relaxing.

The family has an old farm there and in one of the sheds is an old quite ruined 2 seater sofa. It’s been “out” there for quite some years. Sampo’s mom promised it to me and I’m sooo excited. Although, it’s in quite bad shape but since I’ve been thinking to take a course on upholstering for a long time this might be just the right project. (Mmh… when would I have time for that????) Doesn’t it look fantastic??

Ok, it’s quite ruined, but I just love the shape and can imagine how it could look like, maybe in a dark grey or black velvet…? uuuhhhh… well, let’s see how many months or years will go by until then ๐Ÿ™‚

And yes, another “66“… This painted plate hangs on a wall in the bedroom of the summer cottage… and I hadn’t seen it ever before… I saw it only now as I’m always on the look-out for 66s and under quite some pressure, cause there is way too many 66 yet to go…

I’ll be back soon with another amazing finding! So far…
Krisse

I found the place of my dreams!

I’d only need to move to Sweden…Well, why not..? It’s so close… same climate, and as I have learned to speak Finnish, Swedish should be an easy thing to learn. Anyway, it’s like mixing German and English… plus some funny sounds… ๐Ÿ™‚

And for this place… it might be worth it:

I soooo love the oven, the floor the raw wall upstairs, the ceiling, the kitchen… I guess I love almost everything about, except for the location and the price :). I found it via desire to inspire and it’s actually on sale here.

And now one more 66:

Sampo got this from lidl ๐Ÿ™‚ My luck…

Have a great day!

creaytive… metal sign

Hello again,

At first, I spent my yesterday knitting in front of the TV, but then I finished one leather project and started another… (I’ll show them later on)

But just before I was about to go to bed, I found some old metal sticks I had once bought for some project, I don’t even remember what I wanted to do with them… well… So just for fun I started turning them . and this is what turned out: (at 11.30 pm)

well, it’s not exactly great, but funny… mostly bend with my bare hands… ๐Ÿ™‚

66 and AY in Eira (Helsinki)

Moikka, (Finnish for Hi)

On Saturday I met with 2 of my friends for breakfast and decided to check out some design and interior stores after… My friend showed me this amazing Antique store and I fell in love with quite many items… I was soo close to buying an old wooden closet. It was only 190 Euro (which is really cheap, at least in Finland)… but I could just about stop myself from doing so.

In one of the little design stores, I found a lamp, I guess it’s mine ๐Ÿ™‚

and on the wall of the same block I found this:

yes, what else… a 66.

got some more stuff coming soon… a few things I made,ย  a few 66s I photographed, and a few blog posts that inspired me…

So long ๐Ÿ™‚

Eero Aarnio’s Bubble chair

Long before I could even imagine to live in Finland, I spotted and fell in love with my favorite Finnish design, the Bubble chair by Eero Aarnio. It happened at the Expo 2000 in Hanover, Germany. To me the biggest attraction was the see-through bowl, hanging from the ceilings in the Cycle Bowl pavilion. It’s cushion was of white leather and it had built-in speakers. I asked the fair-hostess for the chairs name and have kept the little post-it with the name on it, ever since.

Even though the chair is from the year 1968, it just doesn’t seem to grow old… I see it all the time being featured on magazines and blogs. It’s great!

Here it is:photo from the Eero Aarnio website

Isn’t it just beautiful? I wish I had one… Maybe some time…

Have a great day!

Gorgeous Blogger Award!

Look what I got!

I just got awarded with the gorgeous blogger award! Thank you so much Alise! I’m excited, especially cause my blog is turning 2 months only tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Quite young, I know ๐Ÿ˜‰

Along with the award I have to answer some questions. They were originally in Finnish but I thought as I usually write in English and have readers from different countries, I’d translate them…

1. When did you start your blog?
I started my blog on January 10th, 2011, so exactly two months ago.

2. What are you blogging about?
Mostly design…, interior design and furniture,ย  decoration and ideas, vintage and recycle, crafts, knitting and any kind of self-made items, plus my project “66”.

3. What makes your blog special compared to others?
I don’t know is there anythingย  but maybe my self-made items and projects… And probably the fact that I’m from Germany, living in Finland, writing in English ๐Ÿ™‚

4. What was the reason for starting your blog?
Well, I wanted to have a creative outlet, a new hobby and got inspired by other blogs to share my ideas, interest and excitement about the topics mentioned above. Also I needed some kind of a motivator to finish my projects, as I usually start hundreds of things and before finishing, start the next one. (I still do that a lot, but in order to blog about my projects I feel the urge of finishing them a bit more…)

5. What would you like to change about your blog?
Well, it is still to early to say, really. I guess I might need some more experience and feedback in order to know what should be different. But maybe I would like to change the banner. I made it in a hurry, just to have something at all. And I was thinking of using it also as my portfolio for all things I did as a graphic designer.

So now I have to nominate 5 more bloggers to win this award. And the gorgeous blogger award goes to… Annaleenas Hem, decor 8, Design*Sponge, Oh, hello friend and Poppytalk. Those 5 are some of my favorite blogs. They have inspired me, amazed me, amused me and especially, they have given me the impulse to do this! Please check them out, they are fantastic!

66 in Prague…

Hi everyone,

I came back on Sunday from a long weekend in Prague where I met with friend Kristina from Hamburg. It was fantastic. We were pretty lucky with the weather, though it wasn’t warm but really sunny and pretty (at least most of the time).

Prague is an amazing city. We saw so much and probably walked hundreds of kilometers… At least it felt like it. We did a little sight seeing tour by the book, went shopping :), had a boat trip, went to see Black Swan and also partied a bit… On Sunday, we were exhausted but happy… ๐Ÿ™‚

While walking I kept my eyes open all the time for any “66”. The city has a countless amount of amazing typography all over, from house numbers to shop names and others but unfortunately I only found one single 66. And that particular one wasn’t even one of the pretty ones. mmhh… But since I am quite behind on my count, here it is anyhow:

I’ll post more really soon! Promise!

Have a great week!

One’s trash is another’s treasure

Well, last week I already showed some of the small stuff I found from the reuse center… I decided to spray paint them. Now here is the before and after :
The only thing that didn’t turn out that well is the porcelain elephant. I gave it to Sampo for his birthday (he got an elephant cause he drives a Ducati Elephant) but the plain glass bottles that I spray painted as well turned out quite nice… The chair is still waiting to become black as well…

And then… Last week someone from our neighborhood obviously moved in a hurry. The dumpster was full of stuff. Some of it way too nice to just through away. I took some ceramic bowls, thick card board boxes, plastic boxes and this chair. It was a bit broken, but we fixed it and put black felt on it.

This old salad spinner… I’m gonna use it as a fruit basket…
There was even more but Sampo forbid me to go get another load full of stuff. Although he himself went another time to get another stack of Donald Duck magazines that were in the paper trash ๐Ÿ™‚

Dumpster diving can be really fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ What kind of treasures did you find while dumpster diving?
